Laser printers on the ethernet

We might want to get a laser printer that sits on the ethernet sometime in
the near future. Is there anything in particular to be wary of? Are there
any tests to carry out? Too many machines seem to generate ethernet garbage
these days and I wouldn't like to be lumbered with another one.
