There's much gnashing of teeth about this issue going on at several
sites, including ours. There are, as far as I know, no distributable
implementations yet. There are a variety of problems that need to be
addressed with such a mechanism, including how the address is chosen,
when it is OK to reuse it, ARP caches in other hosts and gateways on
the LAN, robustness in the face of server crashes, etc. Stay tuned.
