Dave, we had this type of discussion often at Los Alamos, namely,
how long is YOUR network (keep you evil thoughts to yourself!). Teh
comparison was between 19inch rack or 10 miles out to the remote
canyon site. But you are right, networking is just an extended case
of interprocess communication, with the processes spread over a
varying distance. That distance can have an affect, if the time
required to travel that distance affects what the processes are doing.
At very high speed, the effect can be small to non-existant.
