I know this has been discussed on this list before, but I don't know if
a consensus was reached.
Are there any implementations out there that broadcast an ARP "hello" at
boot time? A "hello" is an ARP reply packet that contains the hardware
and protocol address of the machine being booted so that other machines
can record its address resolution for future use. If anyone has done
this, what values are put in the target protocol and hardware address
fields of the packet? Do any implementations send such "hello"s before
they send a broadcast for some specific service (eg. time)?
