The one major piece of statelessness that Sun did that I wish they hadn't
is that they do not keep track of the fact that the server they were
referencing is down. It would seem to be a trivial modification to
notice when the server dies, and then invalidate requests for the mounted
disk until they get some indication (periodic pinging or whatever) that
the dead machine has come back to life.
